Godfreys and Hartleys

Doctor Frank Godfrey, his wife Mabel, née Hartley, and three daughters Eileen, Violet and Elma, lived at 5 Montpellier Terrace, Scarborough, directly opposite St. Martin’s Vicarage where the Mackarness family lived.

The two families were close, and Eileen Godfrey married Cuthbert Mackarness in Calcutta in 1915.

Frank Godfrey was originally from Melbourne, Australia.  If you are interested in the Godfrey side of the family, contact Bill Godfrey [email protected], who maintains a tree at ancestry.com.au.

Mabel Godfrey's parents, (Dr) Joshua and Maria Hartley, lived in Malton, Yorkshire.  Several Hartley memorial plaques can be seen in the church in the market square. Thanks to Caroline Lawrence for sharing photos of Dr Hartley and his family.
